The Ark

No not the boat!

The Ark was a large golden box that the children of Israel carried as they travelled through the Wildnerness. It contained the two stone tablets of the law, and later Aaron's rod and a pot of Manna.

The Ark is a perfect picture or type of the Lord Jesus. God was very specific when He gave the instruction to Moses about how the Ark should be built and how it should be looked after. Each part of the Ark speaks of a different part of Jesus' character.

The Ark is pretty much the exact type of Christ

As an inanimate object it could not fail

It is called the Ark of the Testimoney

Our testimoney is for the wilderness (the World) so its not called the ark of the Testimoney once the children of Israel enter the land.

The Ark was made of Acacia wood- a type of wood which doesn't decay

This speaks of the Lord not being corrupted by the world.

The Ark was overlaid with gold

Gold speaks of what is divine, it shows Jesus was fully God.

The wood and the gold together

This shows that the Lord was fully God and full man. The same person but two very distinct aspects to His person.

The Ark was designed to be carried

This shows we are to take Jesus with us as we travel through the world.

The Mercy seat was the lid of the Ark

This was sprinkled with blood- the blood and gold together show us God's Divine Mercy!

There are cherubim looking down at the blood on the mercy seat.

The cherubims speak of God's righteouness, so they show that God's righteous claims have been met in the blood of Christ.

Inside the Ark were the tablets of the law

This shows that Christ fully upheld the law in everyway

Inside the Ark was a pot of manna

This shows that Christ is able to feed all those who follow him

Inside the Ark was Aaron's rod that had budded flowers.

This speaks of the Lord's resurrection

There are many more aspect of the Ark that speak of our wonderful Saviour Jesus Christ. How many more can you find?

This is almost certainly not what the Ark looked like
